Composting Sites: Bioaerosols & Worker Health

About Course

Turning, shredding and screening compost releases bioaerosols – airborne micro-organisms and their toxins – that can cause flu-like illness, asthma and other lung disease. Based on HSE guidance, this course explains the health effects, where exposure is highest, the COSHH controls expected at composting sites and the other hazards workers face.

This course gives general awareness of bioaerosol risks at composting sites based on HSE guidance. It is not medical advice and does not replace a site-specific COSHH assessment, RPE fit testing or occupational health advice.
