About Course

Power presses can crush and amputate in a fraction of a second. This course explains the special requirements for power presses in Part IV of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998: thorough examination intervals, inspection and testing of guards by an appointed person within the first four hours of every working period, certificates and records, and the main types of guard and protection device.

This course gives general, awareness-level information about UK health and safety law and official guidance. It is not a substitute for employer-specific training, a suitable and sufficient risk assessment for your own workplace, or advice from a competent person, and it is not an accredited qualification. Always check the latest official guidance and follow your organisation’s own procedures. Inspection and testing of press guards must only be done by competent, appointed persons.
