About Course

The Equality Act 2010 allows employers to take “positive action” to help under-represented or disadvantaged groups, but “positive discrimination” is generally unlawful. This course explains where the line is, including the tie-breaker rule in section 159, with practical examples.

This course gives general information about employment and equality law in Great Britain as at October 2026. It is not legal advice. Northern Ireland has separate legislation. Laws and guidance change, so check the official sources listed, contact Acas, or take professional advice before acting in a specific case.
