Lighting at Work

About Course

Good lighting helps people see hazards, work accurately and avoid eyestrain and headaches. This course explains the legal duty to provide suitable and sufficient lighting, HSE’s recommended light levels in HSG38, how to deal with glare, flicker and stroboscopic effects, and the role of emergency lighting and maintenance.

This course gives general, awareness-level information about UK health and safety law and official guidance. It is not a substitute for employer-specific training, a suitable and sufficient risk assessment for your own workplace, or advice from a competent person, and it is not an accredited qualification. Always check the latest official guidance and follow your organisation’s own procedures.
