Gas Safety Duties for Landlords

About Course

Landlords who provide gas appliances in rented accommodation have specific legal duties under regulation 36 of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998. This course explains who counts as a landlord, the annual gas safety check, the 2-month early-check flexibility, what the record must contain, giving copies to tenants, and keeping gas fittings and flues safe.

This course gives general, awareness-level information about UK health and safety law and official guidance. It is not a substitute for employer-specific training, a suitable and sufficient risk assessment for your own workplace, or advice from a competent person, and it is not an accredited qualification. Always check the latest official guidance and follow your organisation’s own procedures. Only Gas Safe registered engineers may carry out gas work.
