About Course

When is a worker legally protected for blowing the whistle, and what can they do if they are treated badly as a result? This course works through the legal tests for a protected disclosure, the protection against detriment and dismissal, remedies, time limits and recent changes.

This course gives general information about whistleblowing law in Great Britain, with notes on Northern Ireland. It is not legal advice. Employment law is changing under the Employment Rights Act 2025, and time limits are strict – anyone considering a claim should get advice promptly from Acas, Protect, a trade union or a lawyer.

  • Apply the tests for a qualifying and protected disclosure
  • Explain the protection against detriment and automatically unfair dismissal
  • Describe remedies, early conciliation and the current tribunal time limits
