Protecting the Public from Construction Work

About Course

Construction work affects passers-by, neighbours, visitors and children who may be drawn onto a site. This course explains the legal duty to protect people who are not your workers and the practical measures HSE expects, from perimeter fencing and site security to falling-object protection and safe pavements.

This course gives general awareness of protecting the public from construction work. It does not replace a site-specific risk assessment or construction phase plan. Always follow current law, HSE or HSENI guidance and your principal contractor’s site rules.

What Will You Learn?

  • Understand the legal duty to protect members of the public
  • Plan perimeter fencing and site access control
  • Reduce the risks to children and trespassers out of hours
