About Course

Ports and docks bring together heavy vehicles, cranes, containers, ships, quaysides and dangerous goods. This course explains the legal framework that applies to dock work today – including the Safety in Docks Approved Code of Practice (L148) and the Dangerous Goods in Harbour Areas Regulations 2016 – and the main risks and controls for workplace transport, lifting, containers, working at height and access to vessels.

This course gives general, awareness-level information about UK health and safety law and official guidance. It is not a substitute for employer-specific training, a suitable and sufficient risk assessment for your own workplace, or advice from a competent person, and it is not an accredited qualification. Always check the latest official guidance and follow your organisation’s own procedures.
