Health & Safety for Charities & Volunteers

About Course

Charities, community groups and voluntary organisations do valuable work – and their volunteers deserve the same protection as paid staff. This course explains when health and safety law applies to organisations that use volunteers, how to include volunteers in risk assessments, the particular risks in charity shops, fundraising events and community halls, and when volunteer incidents must be reported under RIDDOR.

This course gives general, awareness-level information about UK health and safety law and official guidance. It is not a substitute for employer-specific training, a suitable and sufficient risk assessment for your own workplace, or advice from a competent person, and it is not an accredited qualification. Always check the latest official guidance and follow your organisation’s own procedures.
